Family Literacy

Family Literacy at Cashes Green Primary School

Do you feel you would like to spend more time with your child on their literacy homework or reading, with a teacher available to offer support?

Does your child enjoy writing stories and you’d like to help them?

Would you like help in your own literacy skills – maybe for job applications, formal letters or reading?

Perhaps you’d simply like to spend more time with your child in a constructive environment, on a regular basis.

Whatever your needs, we would like to help.

If this interests you and you would like to come into school for a chat, please phone the school office on 01453 763598 or email

Examples of how Family Literacy has already benefited some of our families:

Alex and Joy

Joy wanted to encourage Alex with his story writing, as she knew this is something he enjoys and spends a lot of time on at home. After a short chat with both Joy and Alex about Alex’s interests, we arranged to meet every Thursday afternoon to write his story together. Joy and Alex then built the story scenery and props together to create the following Photo Story.

Here is the story in word format.

We hope you enjoy watching it as much as they enjoyed putting it together!

Thomas and Judith

Judith felt she wanted some extra guidance in helping Thomas with his spellings. We now arrange a session on a weekly basis for Judith to come in and work with Thomas, with teacher support. This flexibility allows Judith to continue working in the meantime.

 Rhys and Julie

During their weekly Family Literacy session, Julie reads Rhys a story and we chat about it afterwards. This allows Rhys to spend some extra time with his Mum, while also contributing to the creation of the school’s new Story Sacks. We hope to run Story Sacks sessions half way through the Spring term.
